We know that due to changes in Government guidance (in regards to the COVID-19 response) things are changing pretty quickly around here, so we’ve put the answers all of your frequently asked questions in one place.

General

 

Is term 2 going to be completely online?

  • Teaching is going to continue online in January, except in cases where practical assessments or teaching are required.
  • This will generally be the same as your experience in Term 1, but if you are unsure whether your course has any practical assessment or teaching you should contact your programme leader or personal tutor. 
  • UWS are planning for some on-campus activities during Term 2 but are waiting for further government guidance.

Is there anywhere I can study on campus? 

  • Study spaces in the library are closed, but other study spaces can be booked in advance.
  • This will be reviewed at the end of January in line with government advice.

How does extenuating circumstances work? 

 

What help is available for students who are struggling? 

 


 

Final Year Students

 

Will there be any changes to the honours classification system this year in recognition of the pandemic?  

  • UWS have reverted to the standard honours classification this year but are working to ensure that all assessments are appropriate for distance learning and are encouraging students who need extra help to use extension and extenuating circumstances to help.

 


 

Student Parents


Will there be any changes to the exam schedule now that many students have full time childcare and home-schooling responsibilities during the exam period? 

  • There are currently no plans to change the exam schedule.  


 
How will UWS support students who may struggle to attend classes or meet deadlines now that many students have full time childcare and home-schooling responsibilities?   

 


 

Placement Students

 

Will I still be going on placement? 

  • All nursing and health related course placements are still going ahead as planned.
  • We are waiting to hear what will happen with social work and education placements.
  • We suggest students contact their personal tutor and/or the placement coordinator for further information and guidance. 
  • When we have more information, we will update this section. 

 
Will I get the COVID-19 Vaccine?  

  • Currently we don’t know but believe this will be a decision made by the Scottish Government or Health Authority.
