Aimee Duncan – Event Management 2020

Hi everyone!

If I haven’t had the chance to meet you yet my name is Aimee and I am putting myself forward to be the Event Management Student Rep. I’ll tell you a wee bit about myself and a few reasons why I would like to represent us throughout our new university journey!

I am 29, in my first year of the Event Management course and I currently work for Sky, where I have been involved with the training and development programme for the last two years. This has given me a lot of experience with planning and facilitating training in the best kind of learning environment possible and ensures there is support for everyone to make sure that nobody gets “left behind” or feels alone in their journeys.

With this comes the responsibility to discuss feedback, both positive and negative and new ideas from staff (in our case students) with the head leadership team. This involves collecting feedback and getting it heard, which links in a lot to a student representative role. I also have experience as a Student Rep. from my time spent at college, which I enjoyed as I love being involved with the process of making a difference!

I want this to be about us. I would be the collective voice for everyone on our course as we are in this together. I could collect information in a few different ways, with a mixture of group chats and video meetings. However, as I am well aware some people feel uncomfortable or anxious about giving feedback directly, (which is why I am here) I could even make anonymous Survey Monkey surveys to make sure you all know this is a safe environment where we all get to say our bit and can all be as involved as possible. I care about everyone's input.

  • I am organised.
  • I am not shy to talk in front of people online or face to face.
  • I’m all about getting our voices heard.
  • I want to make sure this is a safe environment where everyone gets to be involved.

Being a rep isn’t just about being the one to raise “complaints”, it’s also about making sure that I will be able to share any information from meetings, make sure you are all aware of the support available and also ensure that you have a safe space to be able to air concerns or ideas to help make our journey run a little more smoothly.

Remember the Four C's! Change, Care, Compassion & Communication!

If this all sounds good to you, I would appreciate your vote :)
