Diversity is strength, All we need is each other. Together we can!!!
My Name is Awolaja Kehinde Omoleye, I am from Lagos Nigeria, I am in my first year in Msc in international management and I hope to be your next Vice President of welfare & Wellbeing.
Before you read my manifesto, i will like tell you why i am running for the VP welfare and wellbeing,
Wellbeing to me means being comfortable, healthy and happy and with mental health and mindfulness. I am very passionate about making UWS a place where everyone’s well being is a priority.
As well as improving wellbeing, I hope to be able to cultivate a culture of equality and inclusion.
I believe that I can confidently and with great motivation work towards making UWS a place where all student problems are addressed in a way that makes everyone feel welcome and at home in our community.
Working with a university counselor has allowed me to gain an insight into how important people's welfare is and how mental health is important. The experience has been really enjoyable and very educational but now I believe I am ready to take on a larger role that has an impact on all students.
I believe the diversity of our student population is a strength
If I am elected I want to focus on:
1. I will make wellbeing a priority
2. I will Help to improve student mental health. – Mental health is an incredibly important part of everyone’s university experience as earning a degree is, at times, extremely stressful and can take a toll on everyone’s mental health.
3. I want to help to raise awareness for the services that are available at UWS so that everyone who is overwhelmed or struggling with their mental health knows where to find help within the university. At the same time I am passionate about supporting new initiatives and events
4. I will Educate students, especially committee members of the integral signs of mental wellbeing to provide assistance in the detection and the acquisition of corrective and informative support.
5. I will help in Campaigning on issues including, but not limited to: housing and accommodation, mental health provision, poverty and widening access.
6. I will Facilitate input to University strategic initiatives and ensure the student voice is heard in corporate governance meetings.
7. Work closely with the Student Voice team and fellow Officers on University-wide issues and policy affecting the welfare and wellbeing of students.
8. I will work with the Student Advice team to develop the service and run campaigns on welfare Issues.
9. I will Be responsible for lobbying for the provision of University, Students’ Union and NHS welfare services for students, continuously evaluating the existing welfare provisions.
“I would be excited if I could reach students in a different way and make significant changes that make their student experience better."
