Role Description

Our Students’ Union Volunteering Team are key to making sure students feel settled into their life at university, make friends and find out about the opportunities and support available to them.

  • We’re looking for students from all backgrounds to represent your Union.
  • University and Students’ Union activities are being held both online ansd face to face.
  • Having our friendly, welcoming Volunteer Team has never been more important. As part of the team, you will have the chance to make a genuine, positive impact on the lives of other students.

As a Union Volunteer, you will support students through:

  • The delivery of our Students Asking Students (SAS) service. The SAS service is delivered through the Students’ Union website and enables students to access information and peer support to help them during their time at university: https://www.uwsunion.org.uk/whatson/studentbuddies/
  • Help with events and activities or
  • Support us in collecting information and feedback from your fellow students.

Responsibilities include:

  • Being a friendly, welcoming face for students
  • Responding to student enquiries and requests for support
  • Helping students understand what support services are available and how they can access them
  • Helping students get involved in activities which enable them to socialise and improve their university experience (eg. societies and volunteering roles)
  • We may ask from time to time if you would like to be involved in other opportunities that arise to share your experiences as a UWS Student
  • Helping during events orgabised by the union like letting people at the door of events or directing students during Fresger's 
  • Having fun!

About this organisation

The UWS Student Union is the Representative body for all UWS Students.

We are here to support students during their time at UWS. We exist to change student’s lives by:

  • Campaigning with and for you
  • Working to improve learning and teaching
  • Offering advice and support
  • Organising events and activities
  • Enable societies for all students

Where?

 Students’ Union activities are being held both online and face to face so depending what kind of volunteering role you have, you could be working from home or on any of the UWS campuses.

Skills/Experience Required

There are no specific skills or experienced required but you should be:

  • Friendly and welcoming
  • Approachable
  • Understanding of students’ needs and challenges
  • Enthusiastic when speaking to students about our activities and opportunities
  • Eager to work as part of a team

Requirements for starting the role

  • To be part of the team you need to be a current UWS student
  • To prepare you for your role, you will be provided a volunteer induction
  • Inductions will be delivered online, as a Zoom meeting

Once you fill in the Volunteering Form you will be invited to attend an online induction where we will make sure you are confident and happy with what you will be doing in your role. The induction session will also provide you with all of the signposting information that is relevant to the role.
