Frequently Asked Questions
I am a Nursing / Midwifery / Paramedic student am I able to stand? What about my placements?
Yes! You can absolutely stand for the positions. The Student Union went through a democracy review a few years ago and one of the outcomes for that was that we needed to create more pathways that Health students could use to get involved. Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedic students are encouraged to stand for the Vice-President of Health, Education and Social Care (HESC). Dont worry about placements - the positions are for 15 hours per week and we can be flexible with you when you are working. If you would like more information please email the Depute Returning Officer - David Devlin - at david.devlin@uws.ac.uk
Can I continue my studies if I am elected?
Yes you can for the Vice-President's of the faculties. These positions are part-time and paid 15 hours per week. The only positions that require you to take a year out of your studies are the full-time officer positions - The Student President, and the Vice-President of Education.
I'm a London student, do I have to move to Scotland if I am sucessfull with the Vice-President Elections?
No, you dont have to move to Scotland if you win one of the Vice-President elections, but you may have to travel to Scotland on occsasion for meetings.
Why should I stand for Election?
Any of the positions up for grabs are an excellent opportunity to:
- Make a difference - Improve UWS for your fellow students by making sure that students are heard!
- Develop Skills - You'll get an opportunity to attend meetings at a very high level in your faculty and the University and work in partnership with University staff and develop your skills for the workplace.
- Get Training and Support - Whatever role you stand for, your Students Union will support you to campaign and if you're elected, your Students Union is here to support you in your role.
Why Should I care about the elections?
We believe taht students should be at the heart of everything that happens at UWS. Elections make sure that the student represetnatives truly represent the views of students and that the student voice is heard at every level of the university.
How do I nominate myself?
When the elections are open you log into this election page and choose which position to nominate yourself for (the system will only allow you to stand for the positions you are eligable to stand for). Make sure that you upload a manifesto and let students know what you stand for and why they should vote for you! You also need to upload a photo, be approved by the Candidate Approval Committee and attend the mandatory candidates breifing to be confirmed as a candidate.
I cant remember my password to log into the system?
The username and password to log into the system are the same details as those you use to log into the UWS network. If you have forgotten your password you will need to contact the student hub to have the password reset.
