Your Student Presidents lead the Students’ Union after being elected by UWS students. They work to deliver their election promises and sit on the University Court and Senate – the highest decision making bodies of the University. They are the people who bring the student voice right to UWS management.

I know many of you are excited, curious, and maybe even a little nervous. You might be wondering what university life will be like, how your classes will go, or whether you'll make new friends. Take a deep breath, you belong here, and you're about to begin an unforgettable journey.
University is about so much more than lectures and qualifications. It's about the people you meet, the opportunities you embrace, and the memories you create. I know this because I started exactly where you are today. Getting involved with the Students' Union helped me build my confidence, make lifelong friendships, and eventually become your Students' Union President.
Your Student Union is here to support you every step of the way. Whether you have an idea, need advice, want to start a society, or simply need someone to talk to, my door is always open. Your voice matters, and together we can create positive change.
This year, I'll be championing better support for students, improving student social life through events, launching UWS Got Talent, advocating for better funding and placement support for nursing students, and being a proactive President who listens, acts, and delivers for every student.
Most importantly, don't go through university alone. Get involved, make meaningful connections, and make every moment count.

Vice President Education: Akriti Shyam
Hey and welcome to UWS!
I'm Akriti Shyam, your Vice President Education at UWS Students' Union, and I'm so excited you're joining our community. Starting university is a big moment. Whether you're moving to a new city, starting a new course, meeting new people, or simply figuring out what this next chapter looks like, it can be exciting, nerve-wracking, and everything in between.
I know that feeling because not too long ago, I was in exactly the same position. I moved from India to Scotland last September to study a Master's in Business at UWS, and I still remember what it was like arriving somewhere completely new, trying to find my way around campus, making friends, and turning an unfamiliar place into a home.
One of the things I quickly learned is that university is so much more than lectures and assignments. It's about the people you meet, the opportunities you take, the communities you become part of, and the experiences that shape who you are. My role is to make sure students are heard and that your experiences help shape positive change across the University. Whether you have an idea, feedback, a concern, or just want a chat, I'd love to hear from you.
