ROLE DESCRIPTION

1:1 Befriender helping a person we support build their confidence and participate in social
activities within their community. This may include going for walks, participating in clubs or
classes together, or attending Equal Future’s social events. Befrienders attend the circle
meetings (usually bimonthly) and meet one-on-one with the person we support. As a
volunteer you may sometimes also offer kind and friendly support to not only the individual,
but their family as well, depending on the circumstance. An Equal Futures Project Co-
ordinator will be there for you throughout your entire volunteering experience.

Equal Futures are a small charity who help adults with a learning disability tackle social isolation
with 1:1 befriending and circles of support.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

No specific skills other than the ability to communicate and be empathetic. Full training and skills
development is provided.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR STARTING THE ROLE

We ask Volunteers to complete our application form which would be followed by an interview
then PVG check and 1 day training.
