Welcome to UWS London Debating Society
UWS London Debating Society is a student-led society at UWS London Campus for students who want to build confidence, improve public speaking, develop critical thinking and take part in respectful debate.
You do not need previous debating experience to join. Whether you are already confident or just beginning to find your voice, this society is designed to be welcoming, supportive and beginner-friendly.
What we do
We aim to help students:
- speak with more confidence;
- structure and express ideas clearly;
- listen actively and respond respectfully;
- develop critical thinking and reasoning skills;
- prepare for presentations, interviews and professional communication;
- become more active in student life at UWS London.
Induction Week 2026
During Induction Week at UWS London Campus, the society connected with new and returning students through conversations, society introductions and interactive activities linked to confidence, student voice, public speaking and professional communication.
Students from various programmes at UWS London Campus engaged with our “Pick a Side” activity, sharing views on AI, cyber security, communication skills, coursework and student voice. These conversations showed strong interest in building confidence, improving presentation skills and joining future society activities.

Speak Up UWS London
A beginner-friendly welcome session for students who want to build confidence, practise public speaking and understand how debate works in a supportive space.
Future activities may include:
- public speaking practice;
- beginner debate workshops;
- student voice discussions;
- friendly debate sessions;
- inter-society collaborations;
- leadership and confidence-building activities.
Who can join?
All UWS London students are welcome. No previous debating experience is required.
