Progressive action on Gender Based Violence

    Passed
This policy petitions for upcoming, and current, sabbatical officers to take real action on gender based violence happening within our campus and communities. This would include working with current campaigning groups including red flag and not on my campus.

Why you think it is important

It is reported that as many as one in four students in Scotland have experienced gender based violence which means that this will impact while they are studying including with their mental health. It is important to note that gender based violence is not solely physical but can include coercion and harassment. It is also important to note that it is not solely women students who experience gender based violence but there are higher rates of survivors within women, LGBT+ and disabled communities.

Is there anything else you think we should know?

NUS conference has passed motions on gender based violence. The women's society and wider Union and University have done some work on this issue. This policy aims for sabbatical officers and others to take a collaborative approach to address the issue including challenging myths and supporting male survivors.
