Why Am I Running?

I’m currently coming to the end of my first year as the Vice President of the UWS Rugby Club 1s, during which time there has been much improvement within the team with the work of the committee and myself. I have a broad experience of other sports, that I have experienced throughout my life. To this role, I will bring a fresh perspective, interesting ideas and I have the energy as well as the vision to achieve these objectives. Running for this position in the election has come with a great deal of thought and I can see places within the Sports Union that can be improved, and I truly believe that I can make a difference to the sports union.

What I Aim to Achieve…

I will enable wider participation in sports to accommodate and involve those who are not interested in competition.

I will increase the participation in sport through the introduction of an integrated university sports competition. This will include different sports to provide more access but also friendly competition.

I will promote the university and the Sports Union as they continue to grow as well as identifying the great achievements and efforts that the teams make year after year.

I will assemble all the relevant sports union committees and represent SAUWS sporting interests to the university and the national sporting bodies

I will help all clubs grow across all the campuses and give extra support to smaller clubs to help them grow

I will communicate with local businesses not only in Paisley but in Glasgow, organise social nights not for individual teams but for Team UWS and creating links for sponsorship

I will focus more time on improving travel for away fixtures and looking at improvements for accommodation if required for further distance away fixtures

I will work with and communicate with the Sports Union committees as well as all relevant students to govern how we will outline success within the association, by doing this we will be able to set clear and achievable goals. This will provide the association with a stronger case when applying for funding

I believe that coaching is one of the biggest factors in improving sporting performance and I will attempt to do everything I can to help clubs find the best fit and fund the coaching staff

I also want to see the integration of courses becoming involved with sports if it is people studying sports coaching or physiotherapy to gain experience with the teams that can further their career

I will promote and raise awareness of relevant health and well-being issues and organise any relevant events and materials to support them

I will campaign for any changes within context that members of the Sports Union feel strongly about and campaign for improvement

I will provide the necessary courses for students to train in sport-related first aid for their sport
