The links below provide further information about the elections process and the steps that you must take if you wish to stand. The text below the links explains more about the roles that we elect and what they do for students. You can also stand for election on this page once nominations open.
About the Elections
The Student Union's is a democratic organisation that is committed to improving the lives of all UWS Students. We hold various elections throughout the year to fill our officer positions. Candidates who stand in our elections are expected to meet the criteria's that are needed for each of the roles and prospective candidates need to demonstrate that they can meet these criteria in front of the Candidate Approval Committee.
Sucessfull candidates will be given training and support to undertake their roles and to complete their manifestos. If you have any questions, view the links above or email elections@uwsunion.org.uk
Part-Time Positions
New this year! The Student Union has three part-time positions that students can stand for. These positions where introduced as our students - especially undergraduates - told us that they wanted more opportunities to be involved, without having to delay their studies. The part-time positions require the sucessfull candidate to work 15 hours per week for the Student Union for an entire academic year, whilst continuing to study on their course. Vice - President of Creative Arts, Business and Social Sciences (CBSS)
The Vice - President of CBSS is elected to represent students across the faculty and work to ensure that their experiences, ideas and priorities shape the work of the Students Union and the University. They are the most senior representative within their faculty and represent students on both their Faculty Board and the Student Union's executive committee.
The position of Vice - President of CBSS is elected in our Term 1 election cycle and students will be able to stand for the position from September 2026.

Vice - President of Health, Education and Social Care (HESC)
The Vice - President of HESC is elected to represent students across the faculty and work to ensure that their experiences, ideas and priorities shape the work of the Students Union and the University. They are the most senior representative within their faculty and represent students on both their Faculty Board and the Student Union's executive committee.
The position of Vice - President of HESC is elected in our Term 1 election cycle and students will be able to stand for the position from September 2026.

Vice - President of Computing, Science & Engineering
The Vice - President of Computing, Science and Engineering (CSE) is elected to represent students across the faculty and work to ensure that their experiences, ideas and priorities shape the work of the Students Union and the University. They are the most senior representative within their faculty and represent students on both their Faculty Board and the Student Union's executive committee.
The position of Vice - President of CSE is elected in our Term 1 election cycle and students will be able to stand for the position from September 2026.

Full-Time Positions
The Student Union has two full-time positions that students can stand for. Full-Time positions require the sucessful candidate to take a year out of their studies. The sucessful candidate for each position will be paid £25,512 per annum for 35 hours work per week. You can read more about the two roles below:
President

The Student President serves as the senior student representative at UWS, championin student interests and fostering a strong connection between the student body and the University. The lead the Union's campaigns and encourage students to participate in Union activities. They also are the chair of the Student Union's Board of Trustees, and Executive Committee and sit on the most senior committees within the University.
The position of President is elected in our Term 2 election cycle and you will be able to stand for the position from January 2027.

Vice-President Education
The Vice - President Education serves as the primary advocate for students' academic interests at UWS, working to ensure a high-quality learning experience. This role focuses on developing and implementing education policies, enhancing the student representation system and championing intitatives to improve a students' academic outcomes. Like the President they too sit on the most senior UWS committees.
The position of Vice - President Education is elected in our Term 2 election cycle and you will be able to stand for the position from January 2027.
