Promote Learning Experience, Amplifying the Student Voice.
Together, we will be heard.
YOUR VOICE, MY FOCUS - VOTE FOR ME
Hello Everyone,
Meet Timiebi Aghogho Oyinpere, an international student from Nigeria and your candidate for Vice President (Education) in the upcoming student union elections! I am currently studying for my Masters’ in Project Management and a Student Representative for my cohorts. As a Student Representative, I have honed my advocacy skills at Staff-Student Liaison Group; a meeting designed to provide open communication between University staff and students, allowing issues and concerns to be raised, Student Partnership Forum; a forum designed to provide students with a voice to inform and improve the study experience of student, Student and Societies Councils Meetings.
I am driven by a commitment to improving the student learning experience. I have actively channelled concerns and sought solutions for my cohorts to the neccessary committees. For instance, I facilitated collaborative discussions with the school career success team on options available to help students, “in a talk aimed at assisting students to settle in with their studies”; this was a part of my coursework.
My advocacy also extended to the Staff-Student Liaison Group Meetings, where I successfully raised concerns on behalf of my cohorts who faced issues with their assessment. This resulted in additional support being provided to students who faced challenges with a specific course and a recording on the use of "Extenuating Circumstances Submissions (ECS)"; I was also involved in “Module Experience Questionnaire (MEQ) and Student Voice Group meetings
Seeing first-hand the impact of effective representation, I am determined to amplify your voice across all programs and campuses.
While in collaborative effort with fellow Sabbatical Officers, I will aim to
1. Promote Learning, through
- Promoting Student Focus Learning Initiatives: Advocating for student initiated module evaluation, inclusive practices and disability support, also promoting timely assessment and quality feedback. And actively promoting the support services available to students.
- Enhance Induction Programs: For example, Aula promotion and improvement, where FAQs will be on all programme space, with focus on the support and resources available to students during the study year, and how to go about accessing them.
2. Reimagine Campus Life, through
- Academic Societies: Expanding the range of activities and events offered by academic societies to cater to diverse interests and learning preferences, through workshops, panel discussions, study groups that will result in career growth, mentorship programs.
- Continue the ongoing discussion on support needed for students to aid the cost of living crisis, across all campuses, and bringing the student union presence closer to you. And creating a community were all students will be able to interact with each other across all campuses.
3. Amplifying Student Voice, by
- Commitment to promoting the support system available to students, from academic advising, mentorship programs, and access to mental health resources, digital support and many more.
- Boosting Student Representation through increased number of student reps and reps recognition awards across all campuses. Promoting open communication channels between student representatives, faculty, and administration to facilitate constructive dialogue and collaboration on matters related to learning and teaching.
