Candidate for the position of Division Rep - Accounting, Finance, and Law (Business and Creative Industries)

Gordon Lawrie

I'm a better choice than Reopen Nominations.

You probably shouldn’t vote for me.
I probably should not be running.

I am a fourth-year law student who really should be concentrating on his dissertation.  Taking on this role would probably not be great for my degree classification.  You might want to vote for me anyway.

Here’s why.

I am an experienced student rep and semi-professional irritant to large organisations.  Since 2002 I have served on the management boards of various charities and local organisations.  I have previously been Welfare Rights Officer at James Watt College and have volunteered as an advisor for the Citizen’s Advice Bureau.

I have done a lot of advocacy work.  A lot!  Organisations I have engaged in bureaucratic wars of attrition before they have eventually backed down include SAAS, the DWP, several local councils, UWS, Glasgow University and more letting agents and landlords than I can count.  My clients thought I was great. Some officers of those organisations have been quite rude about me when they thought the phone was muted.

I am annoyingly persistent and read policy, procedures and legislation in what has been described as “far too much detail.”

I use that detail to ruin the days of organisations who would much prefer if the people they are meant to be serving would go away and let them acrue their pensions and golf in peace.

If you do choose me for this role, I will be a tenacious in ensuring that your views are impossible to ignore.

Please don’t.

If there are other, better candidates please vote for them instead.  My dissertation will thank you.

But if you want me to serve you, I will do so.  And I will serve you well.
