Role Description
The aim of our Students’ Union Volunteering Team is to make students feel welcomed and settled into their life at university, make friends, and find out about the opportunities and support available to them.
- Volunteering activities will be at our Ayr, Lanarkshire and Paisley campuses
- We’re looking for students from all backgrounds to represent your Union
- Having our friendly, welcoming Volunteer Team has never been more important. As part of the team, you will have the chance to make a genuine, positive impact on the lives of other students
Your role will focus on supporting the promotion and delivery of our September Freshers’ events. There will also be opportunities to continue volunteering throughout the academic year. You will be able to decide what roles you do, and for how long. Responsibilities may include:
Freshers’ Fairs
- Assisting with the preparation and set up of Freshers’ Fairs
- Being a welcoming and friendly face for new and returning students
- Assisting with the delivery of Freshers’ Fairs
- Guiding students around campus
- Supporting our Communications Team with capturing photos and videos of the fairs
- Carrying out general duties as required
- Having fun!
Welcome Events
- Supporting the delivery of student society welcome and social events
- Helping students find out what other activities are available and how they can get involved
Social Walks
- Helping students explore the areas around our campuses

What last year's volunteers said:

Training will be provided for all roles and responsibilities.

Where?
Our Ayr, Lanarkshire and Paisley campuses. (You can decide if you only want to volunteer at one campus, or would like to join us for events across multiple campuses)
When can I volunteer?
Monday 7th - Monday 21st September 2026
- You will be expected to volunteer for a minimum of 6 hours during this period

Skills/Experience Required
There are no specific skills or experienced required but you should be:
- Friendly
- Welcoming
- Approachable
- Understanding of students’ needs and challenges
- Passionate about supporting the development of student communities
- Enthusiastic when speaking to new people about our activities and opportunities
- Eager to work as part of a team
Requirements for starting the role
To be part of the team you need to be:
- a current UWS student
- able to attend events at our Ayr, Lanarkshire or Paisley campus
- able to attend an in person induction in Paisley on either 19th, 21st or 26th August
- able to volunteer for a minimum of 6 hours between 7th - 21st September
This role is not currently suitable to students based at our London campus. However, we hope to establish volunteering opportunities for London students later in the academic year.
