ROLE DESCRIPTION
In Ayrshire South we are looking for volunteers who would like to explore all levels of roles, but especially Unit Assistant leaders and leaders!
We are also looking for members to join our Comms team to assist with marketing and social media development – this can include supporting us to recruit new members and volunteers.
ABOUT THIS ORGANISATION
Girlguiding Scotland is a Scottish charity supporting girls and young women with more than 9,000 amazing volunteers. With almost 40,000 Rainbow, Brownies, Guides and Rangers, Girlguiding Scotland is Scotland’s leading charity for girls and young women. Our programmes provide opportunities for girls and young women to have adventures, laugh, learn, make lifelong friends, find her voice and grow in confidence.
Our County, Ayrshire South, has nine districts. Alloway, Carrick, Castlehill, Central Ayr, Cumnock, Mauchline, Montgomerie, Prestwick and Troon.
The majority of units are based in the bigger towns of Ayr, Prestwick, Troon and Alloway but there are many units in the more rural areas of Cumnock, Mauchline, Tarbolton, Dundonald and Girvan.
We offer a safe, welcoming girl-only space for girls and young women to try new things, help other people and discover their passions and talents. All while having fun with a ready-made group of friends!
Girlguiding provides opportunities for girls to make new friends, have fun and grow in confidence. Our activities are designed for all girls, whatever her tastes or needs. We empower girls to learn about the world, form their own viewpoints and speak out for the change they want to see.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Lots of new volunteers start out as a helper at a weekly unit meeting. You’ll work alongside other volunteers to give girls fun, friendship, challenge and adventure. There’s no responsibility for planning in this role, but you’ll be the extra pair of hands needed to make unit meetings happen.
As an assistant leader you would have plenty of fun while giving essential support to your unit leader. You’ll help to plan and deliver meetings, events and activities.
Unit Leaders run the unit, lead a team of volunteers, and plan and deliver a programme of awesome activities. If you’d like to become a leader, you’ll be supported to complete our Leadership qualification. You’ll have training on everything from planning your programme to child safety.
If you aren’t able to volunteer on a regular basis, you can still make an impact in a supporting role. No commitment is too small – every role is vital to running our charity.
These roles are perfect for you if you:
Aren’t able to give time every week
Want to help out casually
Can share a specialist skill such as photography or managing a shop
Being yourself is the most important thing and you’ll find that through volunteering with us your confidence will grow! Volunteering with us isn’t just about empowering girls and young women. As an adult volunteer you’ll gain confidence, develop new skills, make new friends and have fun! And you’ll be supported every step of the way by other incredible volunteers.
REQUIREMENTS FOR STARTING THE ROLE
Process:
1) Register
Register your interest and your details are sent to a local volunteer who will be in touch within 7 days.
2) A chat with a local volunteer
A chat with a local volunteer helps pinpoint what opportunities are available in the area and ensures a match with your skills and interests.
3) Visit your local unit
Whether you take on a support role or join the leadership team, visiting a local unit is the best way to get a sense of what we do.
4) Start volunteering
Once the recruitment checks are complete, you can get started! We’ll support you on your way to providing great experiences for girls and young women.
