ROLE DESCRIPTION

Avolunteer Sportd Coach for young people aged 8-12 (Tuesdays) and 12+ years (Thursdays) plays a vital role in introducing young learners to the joy of physical activity. Through fun, inclusive, and age-appropriate sessions, coaches help young people develop fundamental movement skills, build confidence, and foster a lifelong love of sport.

  • Patient and encouraging – supports children at all skill levels.
  • Energetic and playful – keeps sessions lively and engaging.

  • Role model – demonstrates respect, teamwork, and fair play.

Skills & Experience

Sports qualification / governing body award that affords volunteers to coach sports to young people to include:

  • Familiarity with basic sports and physical activities (e.g. football, athletics, games)
  • Understanding of child development and age-appropriate coaching techniques
  • Experience working with young people (e.g. teaching, mentoring, babysitting)
  • Willingness to complete safeguarding online.

📅 Typical Activities

  • Planning and leading weekly sessions
  • Teaching basic skills like running, jumping, throwing, catching, and teamwork
  • Using games and challenges to build coordination and confidence
  • Supporting young people’s emotional and social development
  • Ensuring safety and inclusion for all participants

🎓 Training & Support

  • Full induction and ongoing mentoring
  • Online Safeguarding training
  • Support from experienced staff and fellow volunteers

📍 Location & Time Commitment

  • Tuesdays, Games & Grub Club 3 – 4.45 pm and / or
  • Thursdays, Create Club 4 – 5.30 pm Station Seven, Johnston, PA5 8DY.
  • Most volunteers offer around 8 hours per month.

Bus travel expenses reimbursed.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

This role will involve introducing young learners to the joy of physical activity, arts, activities and a meal (Tuesday club).  Through fun, inclusive and age-appropriate sessions, volunteers help children develop fundamental movements skills, build confidence and foster a lifelong love of sport.
