ROLE DESCRIPTION

Volunteers will all have the opportunity to get involved in surveying local historic Graveyards, transcribing headstones and monuments, researching the family history of those buried and helping prepare social media and website posts and content for a final publication.

 

ABOUT THIS ORGANISATION

The Urban Historian through www.renfrewshireheritage.uk and www.renfrewshireancestors.uk delivers heritage talks and walks within Renfrewshire along with carrying out general historic research for clients.

Heritage Buddies is a two year project to enhance Heritage Tourism in Renfrewshire encouraging more people to visit the historic graveyards scattered throughout the county.   It is funded by Renfrewshire Council through their Culture, Heritage and Events Fund.  The project aims in investigate local graveyards through archaeological survey, transcribing inscriptions and research the family stories of those buried.

 

WHAT COULD YOU GAIN?

Volunteers can gain skills in survey methods, historical research and genealogy.  In call cases training will be given.  There will be a mix of group meetings and field work in the cemeteries.
