Candidate for the position of Social Sciences Lanarkshire 4th Year - Academic Rep

Ainsley Duncan

We all deserve to have our voices heard and respected.

I am applying to be a student representative for a number of reasons. I have been out of university for two years to have my daughter. Now that she is older and in nursery i am able to focus on my studies again. I would love to get to know my fellow students and i feel being a student representative would be a great way to do this. I love supporting people and ensuring everyone has a voice. I am always looking for ways to develop myself professionally and make a positive difference in the process.

I have various experience supporting young people through my volunteer work with Diabetes Scotland, the Mental Health Foundation and childrens Health Scotland.

I have lived with type 1 diabetes myself for the past 16 years so i now the significant effect disability can have whilst at university and life in general. I am also aware of ways that can help support students during this time.

I have a 20 month old daughter so i am aware of the challenges parents face whilst studying and the support that is vital to help them do the best they can at university.

Overall i have a wealth of knowledge and experience that i know Can use in the role as a student representative and i am an aprouchable individual with a desire to help others.
