Candidate for the position of Division of Phychology and Social Work - Academic Rep

Chloe Mackie

It only takes one voice, at the right pitch, to start an avalanche.

My name is Chloe Mackie and I’m standing to be elected as student representative because I would like to ensure that the views of all students are represented – it is important during this year of uncertainty that all voices in the student body are heard by the university.

The new online medium of work has been a taxing, confusing and stressful experience for many students – I want to take your experiences and suggestions to the school so we can talk about improving the new learning format to make learning focused on course content, not trying to figure out how things function or worrying about missing something so both students and lecturers can have a smooth teaching-learning experience this year.

I want to make sure that the content of this course exceeds your expectations, and if you have issues with any modules I want to the person who can talk with the lecturers about what we can improve in certain modules and to work with staff to ensure student satisfaction is at its highest through the development and improvement of our school.

With the focus on social distancing and the coming and goings of lockdown, isolation has increased, particularly for those from abroad who are in residential halls; with this in mind, I want to prioritise mental health awareness within the school and university, and pose the idea to organise a volunteer helpline to be available for students who need extra support.

I am a firm believer that student voices have the power to make positive changes in the university experience.  Therefore, I hope you consider me as your student representative and allow me to undertake such an important role.
