University is apparently the best days of our lives - let's make it that way!

Hi, I’m Matthew Sweeney and I'm a Computer Networking Student in year 3 at Paisley Campus. I’d love to be your divisional rep!

I  was divisional rep for the the school of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences for the last academic year (2019-2020), where I made sure that I was present at all Student Council and Student/Staff Liason Meetings.

I was also elected as and served as Student President at Glasgow Clyde Collge (Anniesland campus) for two consecutive years running. I therefore have the experience in  engaging with fellow students, listening to their views and making sure that their views are heard!

Throughout every section of my manifesto I have focused on new, creative ideas. One thing which I can promise you is that I will campaign and lobby relentlessly on your behalf to try and improve your time at UWS as students of this faculty. I have the necessary experience and passion to do this!

Please check out my manifesto in full below.

I’m really passionate about improving our Students’ Union and the services it provides and would love it if you voted for me and allowed me to make the changes that we need!

BRINGING CAMPUSES TOGETHER:

  • Home students should arrive at the same time as international students. Staggering their arrival discourages integration and neglects a proper period for settling in and socialising.
  • I will ensure we have a proper Refreshers week. It is easy to miss the boat the first time around with so many things to take in, all the fairs and opportunities that are available the first time around should be available the second time around.

YOUR EDUCATION:

  • I will lobby the School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences to provide a full ‘tuition fees receipt’ showing a breakdown of where your tutuition fees goes. We need greater transparency in where our money goes.
  • I will attempt to introduce a peer-assisted learning (PAL) scheme. 2nd and 3rd years provide academic support to 1st years as they make the transition to University level studying.
  • I will campaign for a minimum of 12 contact hours for ALL courses.

TRANSPARENCY AND DEMOCRACY:

  • Division Reps and School Officers will be regularly available in a more open and welcome space.
  • I will introduce online diaries; detailing what Division Reps and School Officers are doing with their time, and when they are free for you to access.
  • I will campaign to introduce regular polling of student opinion. Instead of assuming we know what the student body thinks – let’s ask! This could easily be done online or via email.

I thank you kindly for taking the time to read this and I hope that I can count on your vote.
