I’m Athol and I'm standing to be your next President.

I'm a 4th year Society, Politics, and Policy student. I am also a Student Rep, Societies Executive Committee Member, and Convenor of the UWS LGBT+ Society. I’ve been involved with student activism throughout my time at the university and I've seen the challenges that students face, and experienced them myself firsthand. Students are being squeezed harder than ever before and need urgent support.  

A Vote for Athol is a Vote For...  

Active Travel Improvements

- Introduce better bike storage facilities and campaign local councils to improve walking, wheeling, and cycling routes. 

- Improved transport links, such as a shuttle bus running to Lanarkshire Campus to improve connectivity to the local station.  

 Accessible Education

 - Lobbying the Scottish Government with NUS on increased payments and summer support. Students deserve a living wage for their studies.

- Address bad timetabling, many students are travelling hours a day for one hour of classes, this is expensive and a completely avoidable issue. 

Improve Green Spaces

- Improve the green spaces on all of our campuses and restoration of brownfield sites.

- More recycling bins, especially outside in communal areas. 

- Make sure our campuses are well lit and safe for students. 

Lower Student Accommodation Costs

- Campaign for lower student accommodation costs, currently unaffordable to many students.

- Removal of the hidden costs students are burdened with. Accommodation costs should be inclusive of all services.

Make Available Drug Testing Kits 

- Have the Union provide them or direct students as to where they can get them

- Adopt a harm reduction approach within the Union
