“The very best essence of Leadership is that you have to have a vision. You can’t blow an uncertain trumpet”

Hi!
I'm EMILIEN BIH BEWAH, an international student from Cameroon. I'm in my 2nd year of studying Master in Education. One of my core courses in my studies here in UWS is Leadership that has groomed me to attain leadership skills necessary in becoming a better leader. Coupled with the fact that I've once been a student president of the Geology department of the university of Buea – Cameroon, I think I stand a best candidate for the post of Vice-president as this makes me a NO Stranger working with the concerns of students.

Why I'm I running for this Post?

I think my friendliness, dedication in handling issues, high degree of concern for others makes me a suitable candidate for this post. I'm sure if elected I'll create a welcoming environment where every student will feel comfortable to come to me with their issues or questions. I will work hand in hand with all the class reps to better understand the worries of students and look for long lasting solutions. I working as a student departmental president before and undertaking course here in UWS have made me accumulated, problem-solving skills, working in a team and also working under pressure.  Voting for me as your Vice president won’t be something you would regret in future.

What I intend to focus on if elected

• I will create easier structures where student Reps can log concerns of students presented student union meetings for evaluation.

• I will work closely with all student representation bodies to ensure no one feels tuition was just a waste of money.

• I will work towards helping to improve student mental health. Mental health is an extremely important part of student’s university encounter. Earning a degree seems stressful and can possibly take a toll on the mental health of students coupled with the trauma and effects of the covid has impacted/impacting on some of the student and their learning. I will want to raise awareness for the available services in UWS to enable students know where to find help if they are struggling with mental health issues. Notwithstanding, I have great zeal in supporting new initiatives and developments.

• I will work towards creating equal and more opportunities for students to benefit from, that are directly linked to their program of study which are peculiar to their career paths to enable them gain experience.

• I will work towards improving the chances of students re-siting a course. This has caused mental breakdown to some students who are advised to withdraw without completing their main courses.
