VOTE FRANKLIN JACOB #1    FOR VP CITIZENSHIP AND SOCIETIES

I am Franklin-Jacob, a 4th-year Biosciences student.Whilst studying with UWS I have established a strong presence of positive changes as well as being very determined to make way to create THE ideal globalized society. To achieve these goals, I have become an International student representative for all UWS students at executive committees of the University to promote welfare and opportunities along with the Senior Management of the University. Alongside, I have been very active within SAUWS representing students as an NUS delegate at Sections conference and being the Union Chair.

Additionally, I am an active STEM Ambassador participating as a mentor and advisor to high school students across cities in Scotland and also work as a Student Ambassador at the University. I also work closely with student activists and sabbatical officers all over the UK to lead and change together and have developed many skills by participating in leadership training. For all the work I have done towards making a change to the society, I was honoured with the national award of STUDENT OF THE YEAR 2017 (runner-up) by NUS UK.

The economic participation rates of our citizens have gone down lately. With the downfall of citizen welfare, Brexit and government policies based on immigration and equal opportunities contribute further distress. If elected, I will make sure every person at UWS becomes a successful and true Global Citizen to compete and achieve.

If Elected, my priorities will be:

HOW AM I GOING TO WORK ON MY PRIORITIES?

1. GLOBALISATION - Throughout my time at UWS, Global-Citizenship has always been my priority.  As I'm working currently with the UWS senior management to have a voice for students in executive committees, I will stand strong to make sure the corporate strategy is not commercialized to make money and solely used to help students' personal development.

On the 20th Feb 2018, I met with Professor Alan Manning (The chair of the NATIONAL "Migration Advisory Committee" which consults the UK Parliment on Migration policies) along with Scottish government officials and senior management members of other HE institutions discussing the future of International and EU students and how we could help student mobility despite Brexit, representing millions of the UK students for their better future.

I will also continue working on my own "Project (RE)Connect", an initiative I started to present the UWS senior management, about improving student experience.

2. STUDENT WELFARE - Draft an initial plan for introducing Renting Guarantor Scheme, and also research on letting agencies producing a report on the hardships students face in finding suitable accommodations to rent. Establish a Mental Awareness Campaign encouraging people that it is okay to speak out and let them know WE as SAUWS and citizens of the world, CARE for them.

3. SOCIETIES - I will organise bigger and better events, help in society publicity, and also help in reaching the wider society and provide leadership trainings to the society leaders.
