My name is Uchechi Mariagoretti Agbaraji, I'm an MBA student in Business and Creative Industries school, University of the West of Scotland and I'm running for UWS President. I’m from Nigeria and I have over 8 years of experience building Education Technology Start-ups.
My vision for the Students’ Union is simple: I want to create an inclusive, collaborative, and effective Students’ Union that truly serves the needs of all students, lecturers, coordinators and stakeholders.
Here's what that means in practical terms:
Education: I would make sure UWS maintains a high standard for teaching and grading. With my over 8 years of experience building startups in the education technology industry, I would introduce more ideas to enhance learning.
Inclusivity: I believe every student deserves to feel valued, respected, and heard, that's why I'll work to ensure that student's voices are heard, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or any other factor. I'll work to create opportunities for students to get involved, to share their thoughts, ideas and stories.
Health and Wellbeing: I would place a great deal of value on mental health because I know that doing so enables people to reach their full potential. There are factors that could trigger stress, anxiety, and other emotional stress in our students, but I believe that by increasing awareness campaigns, continuing to implement measures already in place, and improving health care services, we can assist our students maintain the proper frame of mind to excel in school.
Collaboration and Leadership: I'll work to bring students, lecturers, and administrators together to find solutions to the challenges we all face and to create a better learning environment for all students. I'll work to ensure that the Students' Union has the resources and support it needs to be effective, and that it can have a real impact on the issues that matter to students.
Support for graduates and employment: I would endeavour to enhance UWS's career services for both current students and graduates. I want to make sure that our university offers ongoing professional development and support throughout study and after graduation.
I believe that with hard work, commitment, and a shared vision, we would create a better future for all of us, creating an opportunity to shape the future of our school in significant ways. With a combination of leadership, collaboration, and determination, I would inspire positive change and make a lasting impact on our school community.
