Re-Elect Emma. Still a Strong Voice for Students.

Re-elect Emma Shotter

Vote No.1 for President

My name is Emma Shotter and I am your current Vice President Education at SAUWS. During my time at UWS I have represented students in many ways. This has included positions such as SAUWS Disabled Officer (2015-17) and Student Representative. In addition to this, I have been involved with many projects, with the aim of widening access to education in STEM subjects.

Since July 2017 I have acted as SAUWS VP Education. In addition to this, I have served as Depute at SAUWS in the role of Second Court Representative. During this time, I have worked on a variety of projects including my manifesto points of student rep improvements, lecture capture and assessment & feedback. I have sat on 25+ committees to represent student’s voices to the University and outside organisations such as Sparqs and the QAA. Also, I have worked tirelessly to ensure equality and diversity issues are considered in all aspects of the University. This has included arguing for gender neutral bathrooms on all campuses and looking into student rep diversity.

Over the next year many changes are going to occur in Universities across Scotland. The impact of Brexit and Government reforms such as the TEF will continue to change the way Universities operate. If elected as your Student President I will adapt to this changing landscape, advocating the best deal for UWS students.

If Elected my Main Objectives will be:

  • Continue to campaign for student funding over the long summer break for everyone. Financial difficulty has accounted for students having to drop out of University and places additional stress on achieving education goals.

  • Conducting a review of Graduation fees across Scotland to look into the value for money UWS students are receiving. Also, why students who graduate ‘in absenta’ have to pay the same fee as those who attend the ceremony.

  • Carry out research into the number of paid and unpaid hours of work UWS students take part in during the trimester. Also, evaluate the impact this has on student’s studies and ability to participate in the wider university experience.
