Hey, vote Matt no 1 for union chair!
For those of you I’ve not had the pleasure to meet this year, I’m Matt Cameron and I’m your current VP Societies and Citizenship and I’m running to be your union chair for the 17/18 term.
I will use my in-depth knowledge of SAUWS to hold the sabbatical officers to account in a way that hasn’t been done for years! Not only will I hold them to account on their manifesto pledges and any work that develops, but I’ll also insure they’re accurately representing the SAUWS views YOU decided on faithfully and strongly.
With this in mind, my manifesto is all around making sure that SAUWS is doing the best possible job it can for you!
1st. I’m going to institute bimonthly recorded surgeries so that at any point of the year you know what your student leadership is doing and can use their own promises to hold them to account if they don’t live up to their promises.
2nd. I also promise to institute standardised biweekly reports on the activity sabbs have undertaken, so you’re as up to date as possible on all the work your sabb team is doing!
3rd. Using these two measures I'll release a monthly chair report that will cover everything from the reports, to the surgeries, to student voice, ensuring you're up to date with all of SAUWS democracy!
4th. I also promise to get physical suggestion boxes permanently placed within SAUWS or university land on all campuses, including Dumfries and London!!
5th. I will sit in as an observer on the biggest and most important committees your sabbs sit on so I can make sure they’re doing as good a job representing you in to the university as they are working within SAUWS
But not only will I lead my accountability reforms, I’ll put just as much work into advertising the current democratic processes for accountability, like student congress, student voice and “ask a sabb”, so that not only are we getting more detailed, timely and consistent information, we’re also engaging YOU to be an active participant in your own university experience!!
