Winners Never Quit and Quitters Never Win
Hello, my name is DJ Alexander, and I’m currently in my second year studying Broadcast Production (TV and Radio) at Ayr Campus. And I’m running to be the School Officer of the Business and Creative Industries.
For me, the role of School Officer of the Business and Creative Industries is an honor and something which will allow me to “give something back” to the University for all the support and encouragement that I have been given over the years.
I am a kind, highly motivated, hardworking individual and a quick learner. I am enthusiastic and always willing to help others. I enjoy taking on new challenges and meeting new people. Good time keeping, honesty and reliability are amongst my strengths. Because of this, I am ready to take on this job with any challenges that come in my way.
In the past and within the walls of the University and the Union, I have had experience with good leadership skills and have been in situations where I have had to take charge and use my initiative. Back in secondary school, I was a 4-time class rep which allowed me to climb up the ladder and earn the roles of House Captain and then School Captain. In addition, back in my first year of university, I was the Class Rep for Broadcast Production (TV and Radio), I was the Student Divisional Rep for Arts & Media, I was also the NUS National Conference Delegate and I’m currently a Member of the Student Representation Working Group.
If I am successful enough to be elected as the School Officer, my vision is for the continued improvements and commitment of UWS. I promise that every student, as well as every course and divisional rep’s voices will all be heard, and I will push forward policies that are given to me to the School Dean that will help them remove obstacles and hardships that students are facing during their time studying at the University of the West of Scotland. I will also work with those course reps to ensure that they are trained and professional. I also hope that when I am elected as the School Officer, I will improve The Hub with what they offer and ensure that the University campus is Autistic Friendly by offering quiet spaces, sensory aids, simplifying the information given by lecturers and upgrading the mentoring system to accommodate to Autistic people so that new or current students who are under the Spectrum (like me) will have a much easier, pleasant and stress-free time with their academics.
I hope that when you do vote for me in March and I earn the role as School Officer, I will leave my mark on the University and give you all awesome memories with the assistance of our amazing Union.
Make sure to vote online at www.uwsunion.org.uk/vote from Tuesday the 5th of March at 09:30am until Thursday the 7th of March at 11:59pm.
