Greetings to all,

I am Yashoda Nepal, from Nepal. I completed a Bachelor's degree in Nepal and a Master's Degree in Denmark. Currently, I am an international student in the UK, studying for a Master's degree in Project Management.

Having faced numerous challenges, particularly those stemming from the earthquake and other environmental disasters in Nepal, I've come to appreciate the importance of mental health. My journey as a social worker for over three years, especially during landslides and earthquakes, has taught me the value of active listening and empathy. Through training in Psycho-social First Aid (PFA), I've learned to better support those in need.

I believe that active listening is key to understanding people and their challenges, especially concerning mental health. It involves establishing connections and providing personalized support, crucial for understanding and facilitating effective assistance.

Drawing from my experiences, I recognize the comprehensive factors and social determinants influencing student well-being. Hence, I aspire to run for the position of student Vice President of Welfare and Wellbeing in the upcoming election of 2024.

If elected, I aim to address the following issues:

  • Ensuring a Safe and Supportive Learning Environment: Prioritizing students' physical and emotional security in their educational setting.
  • Facilitating Access to Healthcare: Ensuring easy access to healthcare services, including mental health support, to address students' medical needs promptly.
  • Addressing the issue of Personal and Academic Growth: Offering opportunities for personal development, extracurricular activities, and academic support to facilitate students' overall growth and success.
  • Addressing Cultural Shock and Homesickness: Providing resources and guidance to help students adjust and cope effectively.

Thank you for considering my candidacy. Your support is greatly appreciated.
