Miss SARAH-JANE MELLIN

Vote Mellin - It's Good For You!

Hello!

My name is Sarah-Jane, and this year I am running for the position of NUS UK Conference and Scotland Conference Delegate.

What is NUS?

The National Union of Students is a confederation of student's unions in the UK. Around 600 students' unions are affiliated, and the Student's Association for the University of the West of Scotland is one of them. Conferences are held every year, where motions are put forward, and voted on whether they should be implemented or not. If these motions are passed, they will be implemented within your Student Union and University as rules or guidelines that they must adhere to.

About Me

I am in my third year here at UWS studying Music Technology. I am currently also the Women's Officer at SAUWS, a position which involves hosting a women's group to campaign for equality, and a women's book club where we discuss empowering literature.

You may have seen me around the Student’s Association as a DJ or sound engineer, as I was previously the President of the Events Society, where we would organise Student Union events, and make it happen.

Last year I was also elected as one of the NUS UK Conference Delegates for SAUWS, and had a brilliant time getting to know both SAUWS sabbaticals, and those from other universities as well, whilst voting on motions that would benefit UWS and SAUWS, and attending workshops providing me with knowledge allowing me to represent our UWS students effectively.

What are you actually voting for?

When you vote for somebody as an NUS Delegate, it means that the individual will attend these conferences, and vote on motions with their Student Association’s and University’s student body in mind. The candidate you vote for will have a say on which rules and guidelines your university and student’s association must follow.

Why Sarah-Jane?

Here are a few of the things that I have voted for in the past; the right for student protest, against monetisation of your educational institution, i.e. not allowing certain universities to charge more for education based on the popularity of the institution, free education, free access to sanitary products on campus and in student unions, funding for courses and equipment, for example putting more money into art degrees. To summaries, I vote for equality for all of our students here at UWS and SAUWS. If you believe that I would be the best representative for your educational experiece, why not drop me a little vote. Still not convinced? I'll be around campuses all week if you'd like a chat, or email me at: sarah-jane-mellin@hotmail.com
