A School Officer Who Will Listen to Every Student

Hello! My name is Ellie and I'm running to be one of your School Officers for Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences (CEPS)!

I'm one of the student reps for the second year Physics class, and I really love hearing the experiences that my classmates are having and would really like to broaden that insight to the whole school.

Winner - Student Group Member of the Year 2019

I've got quite a bit of experience sitting on boards and committees, including the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee and the Student Union Board of Trustees. I'm the current Women's Officer for the students' union, and it would be a high priority of mine if elected to ensure that every single student in CEPS has the opportunity to raise their voice, particularly those who are parts of minority groups. I received the Student Group Member of the Year award in 2019 for my work supporting LGBT+ students at UWS, and I really feel that the skills I learnt from that would transfer very well to representing the CEPS school.

"Ensuring that all students at all campuses feel represented is exceptionally important to me"

I've travelled to all four Scottish campuses so far through my other roles at UWS, and I've heard a lot of feedback from many students who do not feel as though they are represented unless they study in Paisley. Enusing that all students at all campuses feel represented is exceptionally important to me. No student should ever feel ignored because of the campus at which they study - as your School Officer I would campaign to prevent this from continuing and to encourage students from all campuses to speak up and talk to us about what we can do for you.

The CEPS community is a very special one at UWS - we have such a broad range of students with a variety of different experiences. Something I've really picked up on is the huge amount of passion for learning that our students have - I think this is really special and should be really encouraged to continue - one of the best ways we can do that is by engaging with the staff on subject, programme, division, school and university levels to really help this passion bloom and to help the university support us the best they can.
