Collection box Coordinators place our iconic dog-shaped collection boxes in their local area and every few months tally up the funds before paying them in to Guide Dogs.


Key responsibilities-

• Identifying and placing collecting boxes in suitable locations

• Talking to the shop owner, receptionist etc. at the location about how the boxes will help Guide Dogs and what we do

• Emptying boxes every 3-6 months (as they get full) and banking the income through the paying in book provided. Give a receipt and letter of thanks to the hosts

• Keeping a written record of the location of all boxes for your supervisor, the dates they are emptied and the dates/amounts banked

• If boxes aren’t collecting much, you’ll decide to move them to a better location. Your supervisor may also ask you to remove boxes

• Reporting any stolen boxes to the local Mobility Team


The time required for this role is flexible, dependent on how many boxes you place and how regularly they need emptied if they are placed in busy areas. The role will require travel around your local area to place and collect boxes, this can be as limited or extensive as you like as long as you have capacity to look after the boxes and check on them regularly.


Full training will be provided for volunteers. Volunteers will receive an induction to Guide Dogs and initial training for their role as well as ongoing support through their key staff contact.


Guide Dogs volunteers are required to observe Covid protocols while fundraising, including social distancing, wearing a mask and regular hand sanitising. Volunteers can decide where to organise events so they are comfortable, for example only organising outdoor events or having a table in front of them to ensure the public maintain a safe distance.

We don’t just provide life-changing guide dogs, we also provide advice, skills, emotional and practical support for people and families living with sight loss to help them live actively, independently and well.



Skills in communication and organisation as well as the opportunity to meet new people and learn how to support those with sight loss living in the community. Students can work towards becoming a Fundraising Group Coordinator or setting up their own club/society on campus to support Guide Dogs and raise awareness amongst the student population.

No specific skills or experience required, full training will be giving before commencing the role. Volunteers should be confident speaking to new people to raise awareness of Guide Dogs and our cause. Volunteers should also be confident handling money.



The details of two references who have known the volunteer for two years and do not live at the same address are required to apply for the role. Once initial reference and ID checks are completed, the volunteer will be interviewed for the role to ensure it is a good fit and then they will receive full training as well as a ‘Welcome to Guide Dogs’ event as part of their induction.


PVG and disclosure checks are not required for this role.
