Helping students with visible/invisble disabilities and illness

    Passed
Campaign to bring flexible furniture for wheelchair users and those with mobility issues to UWS and SAUWS spaces. As well as asking for an overview of seating available at all campuses but in particular Lanarkshire campus, whilst there are many beanbags/hammocks/swivel chairs with bag storage/high seats and groupwork booths and benches- many of these I don't believe would be suitable for students with mobility issues- obtaining an alternative may be embarrassing/ time consuming, if an alternative is even available? Lastly campaign for UWS and SAUWS to purchase, have available and raise awareness of the hidden disabilities/illness lanyard (sunflower lanyard), for those who identify as having a hidden illness which will raise awareness to hidden disabilities between staff and students at UWS.

Why you think it is important

I think it is important as to my knowledge across all campuses there is a lack of provision for flexible tables that can comfortably accommodate a wheelchair user, for example with cut outs to fit around a chair and height adjust to suit the user. I think as a minimum there should be 2 tables of this type in each canteen space/ union space/ learning space. No one should have to sit uncomfortably because they are restricted to a wheelchair. There should be a bank of regular chairs available- not just those on wheels or that look fancy. There is also a lack of awareness of on campus around all disabilities.

Is there anything else you think we should know?

This will be relevant not just to our current student group but also to future students.
