The University's rules on re-sitting exams and re-submitting coursework have changed, and they affect every student.
The University has changed the rules regarding non submission of coursework and non-attendance of exams this year. Now, under the new rules, if a student has no mitigating circumstances and chooses not to submit any work it will result in a re-attend decision rather than re-sit. So if a student scores 0% in an exam or coursework and has no mitigating circumstances they will be expected to take a year out until they can re-attend that module in the next year.
Any work submitted - as long as it attempts to answer the question - will get a mark of above 0% and will result in the usual pass or fail along with a re-sit attempt. However submitting nothing or just writing a "yes", "no" or your name etc as coursework, which clearly does not engage with the question, will also result in a 0% mark and consequentially a re-attend decision.
SAUWS have been asked to help communicate this change in practice to students. We understand this has been poorly communicated previously, if you have been affected or have any queries please contact Iain Shepherd, Depute President (Education & Welfare) dpew@sauws.org.uk. Tel: 0141 849 4171
