On Thursday 28th March UWS Students’ and staff gathered at the Students’ Association in Paisley for the Big Awards to celebrate the hard work of UWS Students and staff alike.
The Big Awards is one of the most important events in the Students’ Association Calendar, it’s the time of the year where we get to not only celebrate the achievements of those at UWS, but we also get to share those achievements with others. This year saw us receive a record number of nominations. We received more than 350 nominations for 9 categories, ranging from Best New Society to Lecturer of the Year.
The night was hosted by Student Officers Emma Shotter, President and Franklin Jacob, VP Societies & Citizenship and President Elect (2019/20). Emma had this to say about the Big Awards.
“I’ve absolutely loved my time as President of the Students’ Association and can think of no better event to end my term than recognising the fantastic work of the people who have made me so proud to be apart of this University.”
Some of the highlights from the nominations included the LGBT+ Society who worked with local drag artists to put on a Valentine’s Day Drag Spectacular, The Accounting Society holding mock assessments, and the detailed 5-page nomination for Outstanding Achievement Award winner Andrew Hursthouse detailing all that he does for our University.
A massive thank you goes out to Dominos, the official sponsor of the Big Awards. Dominos wanted to make sure everyone during the big awards had the chance to be a winner and selected 10 lucky attendees to receive vouchers for 2 large pizzas!
