Explore Beyond Your Door, 9 - 26 April

Have you discovered something new and exciting about your local area? Is there a place or activity nearby you think everyone should know about?

Explore Beyond Your Door is open to all UWS Students and is the opportunity for you to showcase your favourite local landmarks, activities or causes to your peers.

To be in with a chance of winning one of our amazing prizes, simply decide how best to bring your local area to life. Snap a pic, create a video, sketch a colourful image or evoke the imagination with a poem, the choice is yours.

What is Explore Beyond Your Door?

Explore Beyond Your Door is a competition organised by the Union and open all UWS students. We want to know about places, causes or activities that excite you and share them with everyone. We're inviting you to find useful, fun, exciting, interesting, beautiful and worthy places, activities or causes near your campus; showcase them in a way that you think shows their worth and send them to us.

 


What can I win?

There are 14 amazing prizes up for grabs!

 

Overall Winners of all categories

  • 1st Place: Oculus Quest 2, All-In-One Virtual Reality Headset and Controllers (RRP £299)
  • 2nd Place: A year's supply of Domino's pizza (12 x large pizzas, worth up to £239.88)

 

Winners in each of the 4 categories

  • 1st Place: Fitbit Charge 4 (RRP £129.99)
  • 2nd Place: £50 vouchers for a shop of each winner's choice
  • 3rd Place: £25 vouchers for a shop of each winner's choice

 


When can I enter?

The competition will run from 9 April to 26 April 2021 (entries will be accepted until 5pm on 26 April 2021). Winners will be announced on Friday 14 May 2021. 

 


How do I enter?

There are 4 categories with 3 challenges in each of them that you can choose from. Each entry gives you 1 point. A maximum of 30 points will be additionally allocated to each entry on 3 criteria: Originality, Creativity and Content. The categories are as follows:

 

Category 1 - Good Causes

 

Category 2 - Good Sites

 

Category 3 - Good Health

 

Category 4 - Good Fun

 

Complete as many challenges as you like. For example, you could write a blog, take a photo, film a video, create an animation, draw a map, create a drawing, write an essay or a poem. The possibilities are endless!

Fill in this form and attach your entry/entries (please note you will need to use your @uws.ac.uk email address to complete this form, this form will go live at 12am on Friday 9 April 2021). 

Once your entry is approved, you will receive an email confirmation.

 


How are the winners chosen?

Each entry gives you 1 point.

A maximum of 30 points will be additionally allocated to each entry on 3 criteria: Originality, Creativity and Content. These points will be allocated by a panel of judges (consisting of Union staff, Sabbatical officers and UWS students).

The winners will be announced on Friday 14 May 2021. 

 


Where can I see everyone's entries?

Once the competition closes on 26 April, all approved entries will be available to view online. Check back here once the competition closes for the link!

 


Terms and Conditions

By participating in this competition you agree to the following Terms and Conditions:

  1. Your entry will be used by the Union to include in materials which will be viewed by the public.
  2. Any kind of abusive behaviour or language are not permitted within the competitions. Participants behaviour and language will be monitored by the organisers and any breach of the Safe Space policy could result in offenders being removed from the competition and subject to disciplinary measures from the University or Students’ Union and/or reported to the police
  3. Participants are required to adhere to government and university COVID-19 regulations.
  4. No unnecessary risks which might cause physical injury, fire hazard or damage of equipment should be taken. The Union is not responsible for participant’s risk-taking behaviour.
  5. Panel’s decision is final.
