Cancer Support Scotland: Area Ambassador

Area Ambassador: ongoing opportunity

Role Description

As an Area Ambassador you will be using your local knowledge to spread the word of Cancer Support Scotland far and wide. There are a number of ways to do this, from putting up posters, helping at our organised events to hosting your own fundraisers. You can pick and choose the areas which suit you and your lifestyle best but don’t be scared to try something new, it might become your new passion!

Some of the most popular ways to support our work include:

  • Local Fundraiser

Could you host a pub quiz or encourage people to take part in a race for us?

Raise money in a way that suits you and get your local community involved. From bucket collections to bingo nights, there is always something you could do. Our fundraising team are on hand to provide you with advice, resources and support you every step of the way.

  • Event Volunteer

Come along and support our organised events. You could help out at our annual Ladies Lunch or join a cheer squad at the Great Scottish Run. We are always looking for a helping hand at our fantastic events throughout the year.

  • Social Media Ambassador

Follow Cancer Support Scotland on our social media channels, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. Like and share our posts to let your friends and family know what we’re up to.

  • Collection Tin Coordinator

Use your local knowledge and ask local businesses to place collection tins on their counter – the average collection tin can raise around £40 every three months. We will provide you with all the resources you need, all you need to do is visit the tin every 3-4 months and send in the money.

  • Speaker

Become a local speaker and tell others about the work of Cancer Support Scotland. Do you know of any local groups, schools or businesses that would like to hear more about our work?

Offer to go and give them a presentation (you will get full training) or let us know and we can find someone else to do the talk on your behalf.

About this organisation

Cancer Support Scotland provide complementary therapies for people who are affected by cancer throughout Scotland. Last year over 1,800 individuals benefited from our services; many of them coming out the other side as a different person.

“This is my last treatment and I’m leaving here a different person to the frightened and stressed person I was when I first started. I can’t thank all the wonderful staff enough for helping me get through this difficult journey”

Sadly, 89 people in Scotland every day are told that they have cancer. We want to bring our services to the forefront so we can help more people who are affected by cancer. As the new Community Fundraiser, I am really keen to spread the work of our services far and wide and hopefully encourage people, young and old, to support our cause to keep our services running so everyone who needs it can benefit. You can find out more about how our service benefits people here.
