    Travel Policy to reduce emissions

    Passed
The Board of Trustees should consider the following: -Changing travel reimbursement policy to eliminate UK flights. -Encouraging use of electric vehicles for staff travelling between campuses. -Become a leader in using virtual communication channels to attend meetings. -Promote car-sharing when inter-campus travel is necessary. -Prioritising sustainability during strategic planning. -Publishing emissions statistics on the website.

Why you think it is important

Our climate is breaking down and flights contribute significantly more to global emissions. If the union is serious about sustainability. It would ban flights when travelling between campuses, use electric vehicles, promote car-sharing and encourage use of VC technology.

Is there anything else you think we should know?

A return flight from Glasgow to London and back contributes approx. 0.29 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions, whereas the equivalent train journey contributes 0.01 metric tonnes. Meaning that flying is 30 times worse for the environment.
