    Motion to Approve Name Change

    Passed
The Council is asked to approve a change to the name of the Union from the Students' Association of the University of the West of Scotland to University of the West of Scotland Students' Union.

Why you think it is important

In 2019, the Union initiated a rebranding from SAUWS to UWS Students’ Union and now wishes to formally change the name from the Students’ Association of the University of the West of Scotland (abbreviated to SAUWS) to University of the West of Scotland Students’ Union with OSCR and Companies House. This change will have the following benefits: 1) It will align our branding to our formal name, including our website/domain name (www.uwsunion.org.uk). 2) It will avoid confusion across the University and Student Union policies, which currently switch between SAUWS (which is not widely understood by students) and UWS Students’ Union.

Is there anything else you think we should know?

This name change has been approved by the Union's Board of Trustees and the UWS Court.

I have read the guidance on what makes a good policy on the student council page
